ℹ️ Game description:
Checkers, also known as Draughts in many regions, is one of the world's most enduring and popular strategy board games. It is a two-player game that emphasizes tactical foresight, spatial reasoning, and the ability to anticipate an opponent’s moves. Played on a traditional 8x8 checkered board, this digital version preserves the timeless rules that have made the game a staple of intellectual entertainment for centuries. Whether played against a computer or a human opponent, Checkers offers a deep level of strategy hidden behind deceptively simple rules.
The game is played with 12 uniform pieces (discs) per player, placed on the dark squares of the board. Players take turns moving their pieces diagonally forward to an adjacent unoccupied dark square. The primary method of interaction is the "jump": if an opponent’s piece is in an adjacent diagonal square and the square immediately beyond it is empty, the player must jump over the opponent's piece and remove it from the board. Multiple jumps in a single turn are possible if the positioning allows.
A key strategic element is the promotion of pieces. When a disc reaches the furthest row on the opponent's side, it is "Kinged." A King gains the significant advantage of being able to move and jump diagonally both backward and forward. The game concludes when one player captures all of the opponent's pieces or leaves them with no available legal moves. Victory requires careful positioning to control the center of the board and sacrificing pieces strategically to gain a long-term advantage.
